Cape Verde tipped for the top - 30 November 2006

A leading UK tour operator has predicted Cape Verde as one of the ‘hot’ destinations for travellers in 2007.

Launching its Holidays Forecast 2007, Thomson has said that demand for trips to the island archipelago in the Atlantic has been so strong that it has brought forward the launch of its programme of holidays from May to February. This growth in interest will vindicate those who have already bought property in Cape Verde, and no doubt spur on a new wave of people who want to take advantage of the relatively low property prices.

Cape Verde has been one of the biggest talking points in the overseas property market for the past 18 months, and for a company like Thomson to come out and say they expect it to perform as one of the fastest-growing markets next year is unprecedented. This is even more impressive given the fact that direct flights from the UK to the islands only started this autumn.

Other destinations tipped for growth in 2007 are the West coast of Canada; favourite Moroccan city, Marrakech; and Cape Town in South Africa. All of these destinations are also likely to see significant growth in the number of property buyers from the UK, as well as rising property prices.

In a separate report, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has seen some clear winners from travel over summer 2006.

Spain retained its status as number one destination for travelers, though the most startling increase was in Brazil, with a staggering rise of 560%. This doesn’t mean that Brazil represents a huge proportion of overseas trips made from the UK, and numbers remain in the low thousands, though this has to be good news for the fledgling overseas property market.

ABTA President Justin Fleming commented, “Although our traditional Mediterranean favourites continue to dominate the market our customers are showing an increasing desire to travel to far-flung and exotic destinations.”
